email to the prDear President Campbell
My name is Rob Carson and I am contacting you about an exciting rebirth of the former Carthage College Campus in Carthage Illinois.
The campus is now back in local ownership hands and the former Bryan Auditorium has been gifted to Carl Sandburg Junior College. The Charger Center Auditorium/fitness center/gymnasium has gone from a wish and a dream to a reality.
It is my hope, as this project goes forward, that all institutions that have an undeniable history tied to this property will see the mutual benefits of breathing life back into its walls.
I look forward to working with Carthage College on this project.

this was posted a year ago on the last 500 feet in tourism.
Well,
Here is the short story of what I have in mind.
I took the chair of the tourism committee for this year on the chamber because of what I think can happen.
here it goes
from the 1st of may til the end of August starting 2010

1) Branson type show in the auditorium every Fri and Sat night--(prairie home companion format)--filmed and streamed to the internet eventually
2)mon-fri noon time meal with entertainment for tourism and tour busses coming to the jail/square
3)Friday night pig roast and hoe down prior to the show-complete with country and western band and square dancers
4) empty store fronts and regular business storefronts converted to retail every fri and sat with local artists/craftsmen/retailers/organic farmers/..........
5) market this to ALL the mormon busses--bank senior citizen groups for one/two day bus trips (how many trips can a blue hair take to Branson) , Amtrak weekend train getaways......
AM I THINIKIN OUTSIDE THE BOX OR WHAT!

retail promotions should be just that---RETAIL PROMOTION
if it does'nt ring the cash register it should not be under the retail committee's jurisdiction. This doesn't mean that retail shouldn't have a presence at events--just make sure it's a retail presence.
for example: 4th of July celebration--retail should have a promotion where all retail business is open during the events on the square with some specialty tying in to the event--art show--sidewalk sale etc...etc....
I think the goal for the 2010 retail committee should be to put together landlords--lessee's--and existing and potential entrepenuers to make sure when there are events taking place in Carthage there is a full retail presence going on also.

4th of July 2010---A new celebration of Carthage Pride!!!!
Hi to all!
Here is the ever changing but slowly coming together itenerary for the 2010 Carthage High School "Class Reunion"!!!

Hi guys!
How soon could I get this itenerary posted on the home page of the Carthage website? Even if we don't have the ticketin live yet, we can steer people here for the itenerary--instead of sending them 3 clicks deep into the forum pages.
make sense?
Rob

Here is a tentative--gameplan for all the class reunions! from 5 to 50 years!
1960--1965--1970--1975--1980--1985--1990--1995--2000--2005
(some classes have chosen to do individual reunions--that's great--we still want you to come visit us on the 4th too!--Your all invited!)

It always falls on the local classmates to organize--collect money--put together meals--itineraries--phone calls--dates--times--entertainment---etc....etc.....etc....
It gets to be a lot of work!!!!

Let 4th of July 2010 change all that for you folks!!!

we are currently putting together a  full weekend of entertainment--for YOUR class reunion over the 4th of july weekend 2010! It is guaranteed to be a fun filled yet relaxing weekend to enjoy with your former Carthage High School classmates as well as all the other folks you grew up with in Carthage--also celebrating their reunion!
Here is a very tentative schedule of events for your class reunion:
Friday July 2nd--
7:30pm--9:30pm --the all new Charger center Auditorium--"A Hit Parade--with Andy Avery--2 hours of live music featuring the hits from your high school days--get up and dance with your classmates---and enjoy other reunions dancing to their favorite high school songs performed live by Andy and friends backed up by our local band--"Decades"--should be some additional surprises to boot!
9:30--get reaquainted with classmates and friends at the local watering hole gatherings (each class will have a designated meeting place after the show)
Saturday July 3rd--
8am--1pm--Golf anyone? join your classmates for a fun filled golf tournament for all 10 class reunions! lots of fun and prizes!---green fee's and entry fee additional
9am--???--not a golfer-- join us for shopping, art fair, spa treatments and fun around the historic Carthage Square or just spend the day with friends and family --be looking in your inbox    for spa specials, sidewalk sales....as we get nearer
3:00--6pm--Pig Out---all you can eat pig roast and hoe down at the world famous "Lake Linda"--enjoy a good ole midwest pig roast with all the trimmings while your tapping your toe to live country music! each class will have it's own designated seating---Yeee Haaawwww!
8pm---?--join the rest of the community as they celebrate the 4th with the live music of "DEUCE COUPE" in the Beer garden on the Square! live music--cold beverages--and all your friends, neighbors and classmates all together for one great night!
Sunday July 4th--HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!--
9am--gather on the square to give thanks to God for this wonderful community we call home! All the church's in town join together this moving service!
11am?--build your class float or just grab a lawn chair and enjoy one of the finest 4th of July parades in the state (for a town our size)
SUNDOWN--Illini West High School "Fuzz Berges Field"---FIREWORKS!!! END THE WEEKEND WITH A BLAST!!!

Does this sound like fun for your class reunion? Remember the best part about a reunion is seeing old friends---let us do the planning---all you have to do is make sure your classmates know about it and want to come!
Call or email your classmates and direct them to www.carthage-il.com and there will be a special online sign on for Carthage High School Class reunion 2010! For around $45 a person--your classmates will enjoy a live Branson style show, a parade or golf tournament, an all you can eat Pig roast with live country entertainment--and a fun filled evening in the 2010 Carthage 4th of July beer garden enjoying high quality live music! Add an all community Church service and some of the best fireworks in the Midwest and

I agree, the retail committee needs to focus on making events increase sales.  We are off to a good start with our Independent's Day Sale on Friday, July 2, 2010 and Saturday, July 3, 2010.  There will be a lot of people in town for the Carthage 4th of July Celebration, so we are going to provide discounts and a great shopping environment to those potential customers.  If you are a local business and want to be a part of this event, contact the Chamber of Commerce office (217-357-3024) to find out more.  The Carthage Square will be more like a Carthage Shopping Center.

before we can help--we need to know who to help
this mapping must get done, before we can go to the next level.
please fill in any blanks that you think you know the answer to.
once we get the real rough draft done, we'll start creating a cell for each property that we can align on the map. Eventually we can have a map on the carthage website where you can click on a property and it will give you all the information on the property--who owns it--sq.ft.--type of fac--best possible use..........
this would be invaluable for attracting new SEM's (special event members) :)
rob
p.s.---to modify this just click on reply to all and then you can add anything you want and send it back to all of us.
